BOARDMAN

Robert T. Naples, 42, of Poplar Street, Youngstown, is charged in another bank robbery in Boardman.

Naples was arrested on Interstate 80 on Saturday after police say he walked into a Charter One Bank on South State Street in Girard and requested all of the $100 and $50 bills.

He also told the employee at the Girard bank that he had a gun, police said.

Police received a call shortly after the Girard robbery fitting the description of the robber at Jib Jab Hot Dog Shoppe. Officers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Liberty, Youngstown and the U.S. Marshals Service sought out the man identified as Naples.

The first bank robbery occurred on Friday at Huntington Bank inside Giant Eagle on Boardman- Canfield Road.

All available police units were called to the store at about 6:40 p.m. after a man went up to a bank employee with the deposit slip note: “I got a gun. Give me 100s, 50s, 20s now,” according to a police report.

The man did not brandish a gun or speak, the employee told police. The teller believed the robber received only about $500 before exiting through the front of the store. An audit of the teller’s drawer, however, revealed he received $979.

Police reviewed surveillance footage and saw the man leave the store in a taxi. The taxi also had dropped him off.

He was only in the store for six minutes.

Naples is in the Trumbull County jail.

He appeared for a video arraignment in Girard Municipal Court. A cash or surety bond was set at $75,000.

Naples has a hearing set at 1 p.m. May 7 in Girard.

Naples’ court date in Boardman was not available.
