Tuesday, April 29, 2014

CINCINNATI (AP) — Teams checking out potential sites for the 2016 Republican National Convention are visiting Cincinnati and Cleveland this week.

A team will be in Cincinnati today, and a visit to Cleveland is slated Wednesday.

The cities are among six still in the running as potential hosts for the convention. Republican officials plan to pick the host city this summer, and Las Vegas has emerged as an early leading contender. The other cities in the running are Dallas, Denver and Kansas City, Mo.

The GOP teams plan to gather more in-depth information about the cities’ financing, convention venues, media workspace and hotels. The visits will help officials decide which of the cities on the short list get visits from the full RNC delegation before the convention site is chosen.
