YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County Coroner’s office has identified a woman who died in a fire at a South Side apartment Saturday as Marsha Tucker, 65.

Tucker, who had a second-floor apartment at the Grovewood Manor apartment at 3531 Hillman St., was found on fire by firefighters in her kitchen as she was sitting in a motorized wheelchair, a news release from the coroner’s office said.

She was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where she died a short time later, the release said.

The release also said Tucker was known to suffer from multiple sclerosis and to be a smoker.

The release said an autopsy was conducted, but a cause of death has not yet been determined.

Fire investigator Capt. Alvin Ware said the fire will be ruled accidental. This is the city’s first fatal fire of the year.

Ware said firefighters are looking at smoking as the cause of the fire.
