The burglar was in the homeowner’s driveway when she arrived home that night.

A $1,500 computer, $300 TV, miscellaneous jewelry, a safe, a $650 laptop, a $1,000 TV, a $100 surround-sound system and a $300 PlayStation3 were taken from the residence. An estimated $700 in damage also was done to the home.

Fire ruled accidental

HOWLAND

Investigators have ruled the cause of an April 22 fire at 1025 Westover Drive accidental as a result of cooking.

The home’s resident was released Friday from Akron Children’s Hospital of the Mahoning Valley after being taken there for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The fire started as a result of a pot on the stove, which set off smoke detectors and alerted the resident to get out of the house, the Howland Fire Department said in a press release Monday.
