Austintown Fitch 8-8, Boardman 6-5
AUSTINTOWN
Fitch scored three sixth-inning runs to take the lead and held on to beat the Spartans in the opener. Nick Heitzer went 4-for-4 with three runs scored to lead the Falcons. Luke Peterson was also 4-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Scott Pierce was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two doubles. For Boardman, Brian Fryda went 2-for-4 and Gino Beato went 2-for-4 with two runs. Noah Suchora pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing five hits and six earned runs. Tommy James earned the win in relief. In the second game, the Falcons and Spartans combined to score all 13 runs in the game’s first three innings. Fitch reliever Austin Bartley pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowed four hits and earned the win. Scott Lednak pitched 3 2/3 innings for Boardman and allowed only one hit. Nick Heitzer went 2-for-3 with three runs and Kyle Benyo homered. For Boardman, Phil Diiani went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs.
Girard 11, Niles 10
NILES
Down 11-3, the Red Dragons scored seven runs in the seventh inning to nearly pull off the comeback. For Girard, Jordan Graziano went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, Zane Chase scored two runs, Kyle Harris went 2-four-4 and drove in two runs while scoring two more, and Joe Colapietro scored twice. Indians starter Dylan White threw six innings, allowing four hits and three runs. For Niles, Kyle Paden had two RBI, Chris Parry scored two runs and Tyler Srbinovich collected two hits while driving in two.
Poland 19, Lakeview 2 5 innings
POLAND
Poland (11-3, 4-1 All-American Conference White Tier) scored 10 fourth-inning runs to enforce the 10-run rule. Jared Burket picked up the win on the mound, tossing four innings of no-hit baseball. Jake Hawkins was 2-for-2 with a triple and five RBIs, two walks and two runs scored. Corey Svatosky doubled and scored two runs. Lakeview was held to one hit. In the first game Saturday, the two teams completed a darkness-shortened continuation from an earlier contest this season. Lakeview pitcher David LeMasters threw a two-hitter to pick up the win in nine innings.
Chagrin Falls 8-5, Champion 0-8
CHAGRIN FALLS
Drew Baker threw a one-hitter for Chagrin Falls (12-5) in the first game, striking out two without a walk. In the nightcap, Bailey Slyk singled, homered and had three RBIs for Champion (6-4), while Joey Batcho had a single and two doubles and Chris Miller had a two-run single in the sixth to give the Golden Flashes some breathing room. Michael Turner pitched four shutout innings to get the win.
West Branch 6, Southeast 5 9 innings
BELOIT
Kyle Ziegler had two hits and an RBI, Jake Smith had two hits and winning pitcher Kip DeShields doubled for the Warriors (8-5), who scored the winning run on a passed ball in the ninth. Nick Tarter had three singles for Southeast (9-5).
Cardinal Mooney 4, West Branch 1
BELOIT
Christian Lowery shut down the Warriors (8-6), pitching five innings while allowing only one run and three hits. He was also impactful at the plate. He collected two hits in four at-bats. Drew Beck doubled and drove in a run. Mooney improved to 9-0.
Crestview 7-8, Salem 1-9
SALEM
In game one of the doubleheader, Crestview’s Mike McDonough broke his own school record for strikeouts in a single game with 19. He earned the win, pitching a complete game with five hits and one earned run. At the plate, he and Andrew Simmons both went 2-for-4 with an RBI. In game two, the Quakers scored three runs in the sixth and allowed two in the seventh to hold on.
