GIRARD

A man suspected in the robbery of a South State Street bank Saturday morning was caught on foot a short time later, police said.

Officers were called to Charter One Bank at 35 S. State St. about 11:20 a.m. after a man came in and told an employee he wanted all the $100 and $50 bills, reports said.

The employee told police she thought the man was kidding, but he told her he had a gun and put his hand on his waist, reports said.

The employee said she hit the alarm button, opened a drawer and gave the man several $50 bills. He took them and ran out the front door east on Wilson Avenue, reports said.

As officers were called, police got a report that a man fitting the description of the robber was at Jib Jab Hot Dog Shoppe asking about bus schedules.

Reports said the man ran away from there. Officers from several departments, including the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Liberty and Youngstown and U.S. Marshals Service, were looking for the man, and he was caught on Interstate 80 and arrested.

Police identified the man as Robert T. Naples, 42, of Poplar Street in Youngstown.

He was questioned by police before being taken to the Trumbull County jail.
