McDonald 7, Mineral Ridge 3, 8 innings

MINERAL RIDGE

Freshman Cheyenne Titus struck out a career-high 18 batters, tossing a four-hitter with three walks to lead McDonald (6-3), which scored four runs in the eighth. Kerrigan McDermott had two triples, including a leadoff triple to start the eighth. Summer Woloschak followed with an RBI triple, Kari Montella had an RBI single and Olivia Sanson had a two-run double. Sanson finished with two doubles and Kendra Kelly had an inside-the-park homer. Allie Watkins had two singles, a run and two RBIs for Ridge (6-4), which scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

Newton Falls 3, Jackson-Milton 1

NORTH JACKSON

Katelyn Wainwright struck out nine in a complete game two-hitter to pick up the win. Her counterpart, Beth Ritchie, allowed seven hits and two earned runs for the Bluejays. Hallie Stamm went 2-for-4 with a double and a fifth-inning home run and two RBIs for the Tigers. Wainwright threw 65 of her 93 pitches for strikes.

Ursuline 3, Eastlake North 3 6 innings

AKRON

In the first of two games at the Akron Racer Rock N Fire Invitational, Ursuline pitcher Makayla Shore scattered five hits and struck out nine in a time limit-shortened game. Ursuline (8-3-1) came back from a 3-0 deficit behind Megan Ross’ two hits, which included a double, and two runs scored. Macey Gunther tied the score at three in the fifth inning with a two-run single.

Ursuline 11, Canal Fulton Northwest 0 6 innings

AKRON

The Irish closed out the day with a convincing victory, led by Shore’s three-hit, eight-strikeout gem. She also doubled and batted in four runs on three hits. McKenzie Stimpert smacked a two-run double in the first inning. Macey Gunther had two hits. The Irish finish Akron Racer Invitational play this afternoon in a game with Norton.

Canfield 6, Stow-Munroe Falls 5

AKRON

After falling behind 4-0, the Cardinals improved to 10-3 on the season with a win in their first game of the day at the Akron Racer Rock N Fire Invitational. Both teams combined to score eight runs in the first inning. Canfield got two more in the sixth, thanks to Darby Cockrell’s RBI single.

Canfield 10, Akron Hoban 0

AKRON

Canfield won both tournament games at Firestone Park. Rachel Tinkey homered in the first and drove in four runs as Canfield built an early lead and never looked back. Allison Fabry struck out four in her win.

Ashtabula Edgewood 3, Hubbard 1

ASHTABULA

Hubbard’s Caitlin O’Hara allowed just five hits and a walk while yielding single runs in the first, third and sixth innings. Hubbard (4-7, 1-4 AAC White) got two hits each from Annie Zagorec and Olivia Sandberg. Lynch drove in all three runs for Edgeweood (5-1 AAC White).

Cardinal Mooney 12-12, Cleveland Heights 17-9

BOARDMAN

The Cardinals dropped the first game of the doubleheader as Cleveland Heights’ Simone Sollish hit for the cycle. Julie Cook homered for the Cardinals and Jami DiFabio doubled. In game two, the Cardinals scored seven and five runs in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, as they overcame a 6-0 deficit. Melinda Toth homered and drove in three runs. Kayla Lanzo had four hits and Adrianna Popovich doubled.

West Branch 10-23, Southeast 0-2

BELOIT

Sarah Weber pitched a five-hitter with nine strikeouts and two walks in the six-inning opener. Jeni Stewart added four hits, including a triple and a homer, and five RBIs for the Warriors. In the second game, Maddie Pidgeon had five hits and five RBIs and Bailey Byers had four hits and three RBIs for the Warriors (9-3). Alicia Swierz had two hits for Southeast (8-2).
