Janet Tarpley, a Democratic candidate for the 58th Ohio House District, lent $6,184 to her campaign between Jan. 1 and April 16.

On her pre-primary campaign-finance report, filed online with the Ohio secretary of state’s office Thursday, an incorrect loan amount of $60,722 is listed.

That amount was reported in an article and a campaign-finance listing in Friday’s edition of The Vindicator.

Candidates provide finance information to the secretary of state’s office with the data on campaign cover sheets generated from those monetary figures, said Matt McClellan, a secretary of state spokesman.

“The data is tabulated by the [secretary of state] system, but it’s based off of the information” that is “entered by the committees,” he said.

Tarpley couldn’t be reached Friday by the newspaper to comment.

The secretary of state posts the finance reports as quickly as possible to allow the public to see it, and the office later reviews the reports, McClellan said.
