Oil and gas production from eastern Ohio’s emerging shale oil fields continued to increase in the final months of 2013, according to statistics released Friday by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

For the fourth quarter, 1.4 million barrels of oil and 43 billion cubic feet of natural gas were produced via 352 active wells.

Drilling activities also resulted in more than 1 million gallons of brine. Forty-five other wells were awaiting pipelines to begin production during the period.

The totals compare to production in July, August and September of 1.3 million barrels of oil, 33.6 billion cubic feet of natural gas and 1 million gallons of brine from 245 active wells, according to ODNR.

An average of 4,089 barrels of oil and 123 million cubic feet of natural gas were produced per well in October, November and December. Wells were in production an average of 62 days during the period.
