Unique taste-treats of the Valley offered Sunday downtown

Memorable Meals Mahoning Valley, an event celebrating foods unique to the Mahoning Valley, will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St.

Organized by Grow Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley Historical Society, Memorable Meals will feature the area’s ethnic-food heritages and traditions, celebrate family meals and foods of local restaurants and connect the local food trend with the Valley’s agricultural roots.

The afternoon will consist of classic Valley foods provided by local eateries as well as drinks from local wineries, breweries and ice-cream shops.

Offerings include Abruzzi’s hot peppers in oil; Avalon Downtown Brier Hill pizza; Blue Wolf Tavern greens and cheese; Casa Ramirez pollo michoacano; Charlie Staples pulled pork; Dog House hot dogs with chili sauce; Garland’s Bar-B-Que barbecue ribs; Golden Dawn pepper and egg sandwich; Grow Youngstown stuffed cabbage; Handel’s mini ice-cream pops; Jay’s Hot Dogs baklava; Jimmy’s Italian Specialties mini cannoli; Krakus Polish Deli pierogies; Kravitz Deli corned beef; MVR Tressel Tortellini; O’Donold’s reuben egg rolls, fish and chips; Plaza Donuts cream sticks; Royal Oaks wings, ribs; Saratoga spanakopeta; Scarsella’s wedding soup, pasta; The Sprouted Table Bahn Mi sliders; Sunrise Inn old world pizza; Twentieth Century spinning bowl salad; Yellow Creek Sausage kielbasa; Friends Roastery coffee, tea; BoJo’s Creamery “Strouss” malt; Joe Maxx coffee; Rust Belt Coke Oven Stout, Southern Migration; Country Porch wines; Myrrdin wines; and L’uva Bella wines.

There will be a photo and recipe display of “memorable meals” and a presentation by Tom Welsh, a local historian and writer who recently published “Classic Restaurants of Youngstown,” a book about Youngstown’s beloved dining establishments.

Tickets are $40 per person and can be purchased at the Tyler History Center, Arms Family Museum or online at www.growyoungstown.org or www.mahoninghistory.org.

Proceeds support the historical society’s new education and community outreach programs and Grow Youngstown’s subsidized-share program.
