The Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley unveiled a new logo that reflects its refocused services to help clients transform their lives through education, job readiness and guidance.

“We have always provided, and will continue to provide, food and overnight shelter for those in need,” said Jim Echement, the mission’s executive director.

The new logos and seals introduced Thursday , however, reflect the next step in helping clients who need food and shelter today become self-sustaining citizens tomorrow, he said.

“The new logo represents the hand of God giving his Son so we have eternal life,” Echement said.

Actually, this is phase two of the new-services emphasis, Echement added.

In February, the Rescue Mission became affiliated with San Diego Christian College, which adds a college degree to the curriculum, a “tipping point” for the mission, Echement said at the time.

It gave Mahoning Valley mission clients a chance to get a “virtually tuition-free, online college associate degree from San Diego Christian College,” he said.

“It is a minor curriculum shift that will produce major positive results in the community. We’re equipping these people to be contributors to the local economy,” Echement said.

The Rescue Mission’s new theme is “The New Way to a Better Tomorrow,” which will be presented to the community in a series of advertising efforts and a redesigned website, Echement said.

The website highlights information about the services offered and opportunities for individuals and businesses to support the mission’s work, he said.

One service is the new Better Tomorrow Team, which facilitates easy, recurring online donations. Individuals can become members of the Better Tomorrow Team for as little of $10 a month, officials said.

“The mission is a place where people are empowered to look for a future for themselves,” said Marisa Volpini, president of the mission board.

“The Rescue Mission does not receive any government funding and is completely dependent on private donations. Any donations are very much needed and appreciated,” she added.
