Hitchcock Woods Early Learning Center (ELC) has created an innovative way to do parent teacher conferences.

Hitchcock Woods ELC invites the children to attend the conference and they, along with their parents, travel from station to station using a guide card. The guide card gives directions on which station to travel to and what task to complete. This method allows the parents to observe at which stage their child is performing.

“Each task helps to give the parent an accurate picture of their child’s individual learning style, which helps us all respect the fact that all children learn differently,“ says Pattie Welsh, owner and administer.

After traveling through all the stations, the child is encouraged to pick their favorite station for play time. Their parents are then invited to review their portfolio with the teacher. Each individual portfolio is compiled of samplings of activities the child has completed thus far.
