Healthy Kids Day

NEW CASTLE, PA.

The New Castle YMCA, 20 W. Washington St., is having a free community event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to inspire more children to keep their minds and bodies active. YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day features swimming (bring a bathing suit and towel); obstacle course; bicycle-safety demonstration and ambulance tours by Noga; firetruck tour by the New Castle Fire Department; police-dog demonstration by New Castle police; and a bookmobile tour. Damascus award

BELOIT

The American Forest and Paper Association has chosen Damascus Elementary School, part of the West Branch School District, to receive the 2014 AF&PA Recycling Award. The AF&PA judged the program based on the volume of paper collected, the school’s creativity in raising recycling awareness, participation in the program from the staff and students, and partnership with the community to achieve their goal.

The AF&PA will present the award in May. The school will receive a cash award, along with an original piece of framed artwork, and will be recognized on the AF&PA website to help promote the importance of recycling and show other schools new ways to recycle.

Soup sale canceled

EAST PALESTINE

East Palestine Rotary Roadrunners Relay for Life Team Soup Sale scheduled for Saturday has been canceled. Organizers said another soup sale will be rescheduled in the fall.

Levy group to meet

LIBERTY

Citizens for Good Roads, a group promoting passage of a road levy on the May 6 primary ballot will meet at 7 p.m. Sunday at the township administration building, 1315 Church Hill-Hubbard Road.
