Police investigate East Side dog shooting

YOUNGSTOWN

Police and humane agents are investigating after a dog was shot about 2:40 p.m. Wednesday on the East Side.

Police were called to a home in the 900 block of North Garland Avenue for a report of a dog being shot and traced a set of bloody paw prints to a home in the 1100 block of Donation Road, where they found a pit bull with a wound to one of its back paws, reports said.

Reports said that dog and another pit bull were able to get out of the yard by splitting open a fence. A man on North Garland Avenue told police he heard a shot and then saw a car driving away. Police said he changed his story several times before admitting he is afraid of large dogs and that he owns a BB gun.

The dog was taken by humane agents to be treated for its wound.
