Trumbull youth summer employment program to employ 325

The Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services has received grant money of $753,000 that it will use to hire about 325 young people in its summer employment program for disadvantaged youths.

The amount of money available is slightly less than last year, but a similar number of young people will be employed, said John Gargano, JFS director.

Participants must be Trumbull County residents 15 to 24 years old. Each will work 30 hours per week at $8 per hour from June 16 to Aug. 8.

The work generally involves maintenance at schools or parks.

Applicants must apply in person and be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian if under age 18.

Applicants 18 and older who are not attending high school must be a custodial or noncustodial parent.

Items needed when applying are a Social Security card, driver’s license or state ID, birth certificate, proof of residence (rent receipt, letter or bill indicating name and current address), proof of total gross income for the past 30 days (pay stubs, food stamps, unemployment, Social Security printout of all household members), and proof of school enrollment (such as a report card).

Applications will be accepted at the following locations: 9 a.m. to noon May 3 at JFS, 280 North Park Ave.; 3 to 6 p.m. May 7, Newton Falls High School; 9 a.m. to noon May 10 at JFS; 3 to 6 p.m. May 14 at Joseph Badger High School; 9 a.m. to noon May 17 at JFS; and 3 to 6 p.m. May 21 at Brookfield High School.
