Two lawyers are running in the Democratic primary to fill the seat of Judge Joseph Vukovich, who will not seek another term on the appellate court.

ANTHONY DONOFRIO

Residence: Youngstown

Age: 54

Top priorities: Integrity, impartiality and independence, high ethical standards and maintaining a current court docket.

Offices previously held: None.

Family: Wife, Cheri Lyn; daughter, Carmella Marie, 13; and son, Joseph David, 11.

Education: Ursuline High School, Youngstown State University, bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University; diploma in cytotechnology, St. Elizabeth Health Center; law degree from the University of Akron.

Current employment: Deputy Youngstown law director, September 2011 to present.

Past employment: B.J. Alan Fireworks Co., deputy general counsel and human resources director; private civil and criminal law practice; assistant Mahoning County civil and criminal prosecutor; blood bank technician, Western Reserve Care System.

Relatives who’ve held office: Father is retired Judge Joseph Donofrio of the 7th District Court of Appeals; brother, Gene, is now a judge on that court.

DAVID ENGLER

Residence: Poland

Age: 54

Top priorities: An open and accessible court that works quickly and with fidelity to the Constitution and justice for all.

Offices held: Former 5th Ward Youngstown Councilman and former Mahoning County commissioner; currently a member of the Mahoning County Educational Service Center Board; ran unsuccessfully for 56th District Ohio House of Representatives seat.

Family: Children, Elizabeth, Emma and William.

Education: Austintown Fitch High School, Case Western Reserve University, bachelor’s and law degrees.

Current employment: Engler & Associates law firm.

Relatives in public employment: A sister is a Denver schoolteacher; another sister is a professor at the University of Maine.
