YSU Division of Student Affairs receives recognition

Youngstown State University’s Division of Student Affairs has been named one of the 30+ Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs.

The national list was developed by Diverse: Issues In Higher Education magazine and the American College Personnel Association and is based on a national study conducted by the Center for Inclusion, Diversity and Academic Success, iDEAS.

“It is an honor to receive this recognition from these highly respected organizations,” said Jack Fahey, YSU vice president for student affairs. “Our student affairs staff is exemplary in so many ways but especially in attention to diversity and inclusion. I’m ecstatic to see our team be so highly honored. YSU is a great place to work, just as it is a great place to get an excellent education.”

The YSU Division of Student Affairs includes a variety of offices, from Veterans Affairs, Campus Recreation and the Student Health Clinic to Financial Aid and Scholarships, Career Services and the Center for Student Progress.

The only other Ohio school on the list is Ohio Wesleyan University.

“We’ve been looking at diversity recruitment efforts for years, and we know who has been doing a great job at promoting diversity,” said Ralph Newell, vice president of business development and technology at Diverse.

“This takes the next step so we can see who is doing the best job once diverse talent gets on campus in the student-affairs segment.”

Terrell Strayhorn of iDEAS said the study yields insight into the student affairs workplace and offers a useful tool for employers, career-services staff and job seekers across the country.
