Campbell police make drug and theft arrests

CAMPBELL

Police arrested two Youngstown residents on felony drug possession charges Sunday.

At 1:40 a.m., officers on routine patrol in the city noticed a set of headlights in the dirt fields along the river near Casey Industrial Park and investigated. The two occupants of the car — 20-year-old Ashley M. Cooper, of Arlene Avenue, and 22-year-old Daniel L. Beck, of Mathews Road — said they had been night fishing.

A search of the car produced suspected marijuana roaches totaling 0.2 grams, a bag of suspected marijuana, a crack pipe with residue and burnt copper filling in it, and a hypodermic needle.

Cooper and Beck were charged with felony possession of drugs, along with possession of drug abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia. Beck, who said the bag of marijuana was his, also was charged with misdemeanor possession of drugs.

Also Sunday, a 23-year-old 16th Street man was arrested in the evening after an anonymous caller told police he was stealing an exterior air conditioning unit from a foreclosed home at 718 Sanderson Ave.

Nicholas Fernley Snyder was charged with theft and possessing criminal tools -— both fifth-degree felonies — and criminal trespass.

When police responded, they saw Snyder holding a pair of vice grip pliers, an open-faced wrench and two pieces of gutter downspout from the house, where he said his mother used to live.

Police told Snyder he was stealing property that did not belong to him, and was placed under arrest. They also found a pair of stainless steel shearers and a magnetic tool on him, along with the air conditioning unit in his car.
