Eagle Awards

Three seniors from Austintown Fitch High School — Zack While, Sal Minardi, and Jeff Bishop — have earned their Eagle Scout awards with Troop 115, chartered to St. Michael’s Church in Canfield.

For his Eagle Scout service project, While planned, raised $250, designed and aided in the installation of two benches for Fire Station No. 2 on Mahoning Avenue. Minardi raised $600 to build and restore the outhouses of the Loghurst Cabin Museum on Boardman-Canfield Road for his project, and Bishop led a project to build a drum-storage cabinet for Fitch High School’s Band, raising $855 to complete the task.

Bishop joined the Troop 115 in fourth grade, and both While and Minardi joined in first grade. Since becoming Eagle Scouts, they mentored the younger-ranked Scouts during troop meetings and camping trips.

All three are active in extracurricular activities at Fitch. Minardi is part of the National Honor Society and plays varsity football. While is part of the Robotics Team FalcoTech 3193, Fitch Academics Team, band and NHS. Bishop is in the band, runs track and cross country and is on the wrestling team

Minardi plans to attend Youngstown State University to study criminal justice. While also will attend YSU, using his Leslie Cochran Scholars Award to study computer science. Bishop plans to attend the University of Akron to study biomedical engineering.

Michael David Sallaz of Boy Scout Troop 75 from Weatherford, Texas, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He is a grandson of Robert and Alice Sallaz of North Jackson and George and Sandra Burrow of Weatherford.

His Eagle Scout project involved refurbishing and painting the exterior of the Parker County Tennis Association’s tennis building at Soldier Springs Park in Weatherford. He also replaced the broken windows and door in order to better secure the PCTA’s equipment stored inside.

Highlights of Michael’s scouting career include attending the Rocky Mountain High Adventure Camp in 2012 in Colorado and hiking to The Tooth of Time at Philmont in New Mexico in 2013.

Michael is a freshman at Weatherford High School, where he is a member of the junior-varsity tennis team.

Michael is the son of Jeff and Leigh Ann Sallaz of Weatherford. Jeff Sallaz is a graduate of Jackson-Milton High School.
