In order to practice calculating volume and surface area, St. Joseph Immaculate Heart of Mary seventh-grade advanced math students recently took their measuring skills to kindergarten and first-grade.
Kindergarten and first-grade students created a snow village in art class. Advanced math students helped the kindergarten and first-grade students measure their houses. Then the math students used these measurements to calculate surface area and volume.
This activity reinforced math skills, showed practical application of learned skills, as well as fostered cooperation while developing a sense of community.
