POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
April 12
Theft: A full 5-gallon gas can was stolen from a residence in the 3200 block of Polo Boulevard.
April 13
Theft: Someone stole six packages of diapers from Giant Eagle, 3130 Center Road.
April 14
Identity fraud: A Hilltop Drive man discovered his identity had been compromised.
BOARDMAN
April 11
Theft: Uktamjon Otajonov, 20, of East Indianola Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with stealing a $19 USB power adaptor from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.
Weapon: Police charged a 16-year-old township boy with illegal possession of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone, a fifth-degree felony, after a teacher at Boardman High School, 7777 Glenwood Ave., alleged having overheard the boy and another student talking about a gun. An investigation revealed that the teen had a set of brass knuckles and a folding knife in his book bag, a police report stated.
Indecency: A Poland woman told police a man exposed himself to her while in Southern Park Mall parking lot, then drove away.
Theft: A woman stole a $70 bottle of tanning lotion from Tan-Fastic, 813 Boardman-Poland Road.
Citation: Officers responded to a two-car crash near Mathews Road, where they cited 36-year-old Kulvinder Uppal of Ozone Park, N.Y., on charges of operating a vehicle impaired and failure to maintain reasonable control of a motor vehicle.
Identity fraud: A Danbury Drive woman learned someone had used her information in an attempt to file income taxes.
Theft: A man reported a $700 crossbow stolen from his home in the 800 block of Mathews Road.
April 12
Stolen property: A Boardman boy, 13, was charged with receiving stolen property when, police said, he admitted having taken a $60 cellphone from an employee of a township pizzeria.
Harassment: A Southern Boulevard woman said she’s received a series of such calls.
Criminal damaging: A woman in the 5000 block of Forest Park Drive saw that someone had tossed a piece of blacktop through her bedroom window.
Arrest: A traffic stop on U.S. Route 224 led to a felony charge of operating a vehicle impaired against Robert E. Lockhart of East Martin Street, East Palestine. The 48-year-old Lockhart also has five OVI convictions within the past 20 years, a report said.
April 13
Theft: Anthony S. Najera, 19, of Bakersfield, Calif., along with a 17-year-old township girl, faced a theft charge after $86 worth of merchandise was taken from Walmart.
Theft: An employee with a business in the 900 block of Boardman-Canfield Road noticed $200 missing from her purse while at work.
Possible theft: A man reported his wallet lost or stolen while at a Market Street gas station.
Criminal damaging: A man in the 400 block of Boardman-Canfield Road told police another person with whom he has personal problems kicked off the accuser’s passenger-side mirror.
April 14
Theft: A woman noticed her cellphone missing while in a checkout lane at a Doral Drive big-box store.
Employee theft: A charge was pending against a Youngstown woman, 31, after a manager with Country Fair Food Store, 7465 South Ave., alleged that the former worker had made $2,958 worth of fraudulent voids. Also, an inventory audit revealed that she likely was responsible for a $2,900 merchandise shortage, a police report showed.
Burglary: To an apartment in the 4000 block of Hillman Way via the front door. Taken was a $200 cellphone.
Domestic violence: Keith L. Franklin, 42, of Wendover Drive, Youngstown, and Marilyn L. Spencer, 39, of Lancer Court, Warren, were charged with domestic violence and obstructing official business, respectively, after Franklin’s daughter alleged he had slapped her during an argument related to money. Spencer tried to strike another person and interfered with the investigation, police said.
Arrest: Jessica L. Slifka, 30, of Forest Park Place, Boardman, was picked up near Southern Boulevard on a bench warrant accusing her of failing to appear in court.
Theft: A man and a woman stole medicine and clothing from Family Dollar, 4026 South Ave.
Arrest: Officers responded to possible threats in the 100 block of Afton Avenue, where they took 39-year-old Thomas J. Woods into custody. Woods, of Afton, Boardman, was wanted on a Columbiana County warrant charging failure to appear in court.
Drugs: Authorities acted on a search warrant for an apartment in the 5500 block of Southern Boulevard before arresting Vincent L. Sherman Jr., 20, of Southern Boulevard, Boardman, on felony charges of trafficking in heroin in a school zone, tampering with evidence and possession of crack cocaine and marijuana, as well as one misdemeanor count each of possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia. Among items seized were a bag of suspected heroin and cocaine, two digital scales, a separate bag of suspected marijuana and two straws with suspected drug residue, a report showed.
Theft: Two juveniles stole candy and a snack item from Family Dollar, 4028 Market St.
Aggravated menacing: An Afton Avenue man told police his former girlfriend’s mother called threatening to have him killed.
Felonious assault: Christopher L. Poe of Oakley Avenue, Boardman, faced felony domestic-violence and felonious-assault charges after his girlfriend alleged that during an argument, Poe, 32, had slashed her left arm and stabbed her left thigh with a serrated kitchen knife, poured vodka on the accuser and threatened to kill her. The woman had at least four slash marks, as well as a puncture wound on her thigh, authorities said.
Theft: A temporary license plate was stolen from a vehicle in the 60 block of Mayflower Drive.
Criminal damaging: Someone spray-painted an obscenity on a garage in the 7300 block of Salinas Trail.
Burglary: Someone entered Panache, a salon at 7301 West Blvd., through a rear sliding-glass door and removed an undisclosed sum of money from a purse.
Theft/criminal damaging: A vending machine at Jim’s Brushless Car Wash Inc., 238 Boardman-Canfield Road, was damaged before an undisclosed sum of money was removed.
Criminal mischief/trespassing: Someone without permission entered and tracked grease through a doctor’s office in the 900 block of Trailwood Drive.
April 15
Theft: A woman stole a light-brown wig from Hair Depot, 4026 Market St.
Assault: A Hubbard woman suffered bruises and redness after alleging her boyfriend, of Glenwood Avenue, had pulled her to the ground and pinned the accuser during a heated argument.
Burglary: To a second-floor apartment in the 100 block of Lemans Drive.
Theft: Nacy J. Dorbish, 38, of Norquest Boulevard, Austintown, was charged in the theft of $276 worth of clothing, including blue jeans, from Dillard’s in Southern Park Mall.
Theft: A worker for a business in the 5000 block of Market Street realized her purse had been taken from her car.
Drugs/stolen property: Acting on a tip, authorities at a Market Street motel took into custody Tina M. Torres, 29, of East Myrtle Avenue, Youngstown, and William F. Prokop, 42, of Thalia Avenue, Poland, on felony charges of receiving stolen property and possession of drugs. Suspected crack-cocaine pipes, a bag and a container with less than 1 gram of suspected crack cocaine each and a spoon with burn marks were found, as was a stolen credit card used to make $919 worth of unauthorized charges, police said.
Employee theft: Cheyenne K. Hough, 18, of Jenny Lynn Drive, Poland, faced a felony-theft charge after having been accused of fraudulently ringing up and giving to another person $1,369 worth of grocery items at a township business.
Theft: A dealer license-plate was removed from a car at a Boardman-Poland Road dealership.
Identity theft: A Paxton Road woman learned her identity had been used without permission to file an income-tax return.
Theft: Two Youngstown boys, 14 and 15, were charged with stealing a pocket knife, an analog wristwatch and an iPhone case from Walmart.
Domestic violence: Christopher R. Compton, 21, of Shields Road, Boardman, was charged after his girlfriend alleged that during an argument, Compton pushed her off a bed, then kicked her in the face and twice near her stomach before dragging the accuser.
Theft: William E. Fox, 20, was charged with theft. Fox, of Ridgelawn Avenue, Youngstown, was accused of stealing an $80 car-stereo amplifier kit from Walmart.
April 16
Arrest: A traffic stop near Southern Park Mall resulted in a charge of operating a vehicle impaired against 26-year-old Eric S. Pinkard of Forest Lane, North Lima.
