Dierdorf back in booth for Michigan football

ANN ARBOR, Mich.

Dan Dierdorf is coming back to the booth and will be the radio analyst for University of Michigan football games this fall.

The Pro Football Hall of Famer will work with play-by-play announcer Jim Brandstatter, one of his teammates while playing for the Wolverines. The announcement Thursday was made by Michigan and IMG College, the school’s multimedia rights partner.

Dierdorf said in November he was leaving network broadcasting because the travel was becoming too tough because of his artificial knees and hips and bad back. He was an NFL analyst for CBS Sports last season and spent 12 years on ABC’s “Monday Night Football.”

Minnesota State team to practice under coach

MANKATO, Minn.

Football players at Minnesota State, Mankato, say they are ready to practice under reinstated coach Todd Hoffner.

The Mavericks football program held a news conference Thursday, the day after players refused to practice when Hoffner returned to the school.

In a statement, junior defensive back Sam Thompson and sophomore wide receiver Kyle Riggott say the team is “ready to get back to playing football.” The players say they wanted their voice heard about their support for interim coach Aaron Keen and for a “more robust communication channel” about the coaching situation.

Hoffner said in a statement he does not take the players’ actions personally. Hoffner returned to campus for the first time Wednesday since an arbitrator ruled he was fired unfairly last year in the wake of a child porn investigation that ultimately cleared him. The team is scheduled to practice this afternoon.

Duke’s Jabari Parker declares for NBA draft

Duke freshman Jabari Parker is entering the NBA draft.

Coach Mike Krzyzewski says in a statement Thursday it was “an honor for us to have him in our program.” In an essay posted on SI.com, Parker says the NBA offers him the best chance to develop both as a player and off the court.

There is a strong chance Parker could be the No. 1 overall pick in June. The All-American was the highest-scoring freshman in Duke history and became the first freshman to be selected team MVP since Johnny Dawkins.
