84-year-old dies in Sharon fire

Sharon, pa

An 84-year-old man died in a fire at his home Tuesday evening.

Sharon Fire Department Chief Terry Whalen said the victim is Robert A. Carson.

A neighbor, Rick Ruebenger, 49, attempted to rescue Carson. He was taken to Sharon Regional Hospital for smoke inhalation, Whalen said.

Whalen said the cause of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal.

It started in a first-floor bedroom and spread to the dining room and kitchen.
