Jury finds Willie Wilks guilty of aggravated murder

YOUNGSTOWN — A nine-woman, three-man jury today convicted Willie Wilks of all counts and specifications in a capitol murder case after five hours of deliberations.

Wilks, 42, of Elm Street was charged with aggravated murder in the death of Ororo Wilkins, 20, and with felonious assault and attempted aggravated murder in the shooting of Alex Morales 25. Morales survived the shooting.

Wilks, dressed in a black suit and tie, slammed his fist on the defense table after Judge Lou D’Apolito read the verdicts in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

When he was escorted out of the courtroom in handcuffs, he kicked a hole in the wall and yelled, “I did not do anything.”

Both Wilkins and Morales were shot on the porch of a Park Ave residence May 21, 2013.

Wilks was also charged with attempted aggravated murder for firing a shot at Wilkins’ brother, Willie Wilkins, who was upstairs in the home when police said Wilks appeared with an AK-47 assault rifle.

That shot missed Willie Wilkins.
