Campbell police arrest seven on drug charges after traffic stops

CAMPBELL

City police arrested seven men on felony drug charges in just as many hours late Monday and early today.

At about 4 p.m. Monday, police stopped a car driven by Demetrius Alan Lockett, 28, of Glenwood Avenue in Youngstown, on 12th Street for having objects hanging from his rear view mirror.

Police learned that Lockett’s driver’s license had been suspended and searched both him and his car. In total, police found 140 pills, 2.8 grams of suspected heroin, 3.1 grams of suspected cocaine, and $83 in cash on Lockett. Lockett is set to appear in Campbell Municipal Court on the following charges: felony possession of drugs, misdemeanor possession of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, prescription label required, illegal conveyance of prohibited items and tampering with evidence, along with the traffic offenses.

An hour later, police stopped a car driven by Sean Orlando Cornwell, 38, of Harold Lane in Campbell, for driving through a stop sign on Coitsville Road; Cornwell also was found to have a suspended driver’s license, and was cited for the offense. He is set to appear in court Friday. Both Cornwell and his passenger — identified as Irvin E. Caraway, 34, of Wendy Place in Cortland — were searched. Police found 1.6 grams of suspected cocaine and $380 in cash on Caraway, who was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

At 6:25 p.m. Monday, police stopped a car driven by Ricki Hill, 59, of Willis Avenue in Youngstown, for failing to use a turn signal on Murray Avenue. Hill consented to a search of him and his car, which produced 1.6 grams of jerkin and $653 in cash. He was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, as well as the traffic offense.

At 12:35 a.m. today, police stopped a car without a rear license plate light traveling on McCartney Road, and immediately noticed the car’s passengers making furtive movements. A search of the car and its four occupants produced a loaded 9mm handgun, 0.2 grams of suspected crack cocaine and a marijuana grinder.

All four — 22-year-old Daniel Stanley Ho Sang, of Stewart Avenue in Youngstown; 24-year-old Jeremy Pruitt, of Plazaview Court in Youngstown; 25-year-old Isiah Anthony Patterson, of McBride Street in Youngstown; and 26-year-old Jasper W. Wells, of Struthers Liberty Road in Campbell — were charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. Sang was also cited for carrying concealed weapons and the lack of a rear license plate light.
