Man indicted for South Avenue shooting

A Mahoning County grand jury indicted a man on attempted murder charges for a March 15 shooting on South Avenue that left another man with a head wound.

Dashonti Baker, 21, who has addresses on Shady Run Road and in Columbus, was indicted Thursday on the charges of attempted murder and two counts of felonious assault with firearms specifications.

He is accused of shooting Jaquez Brown, 21, who was a passenger in an SUV parked in the parking lot at a South Avenue convenience store near Dewey Avenue with three other people when someone in another vehicle fired several shots at the SUV. Brown was hit in the head and treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Police and the U.S. Marshals Service are looking for Baker, who has not yet been arrested.

The grand jury also issued a superseding indictment against 39-year-old David R. Dragelevich of Nesbitt Drive in Poland. Dragelevich is accused of taking more than $7,500 worth of lottery tickets while he worked for the Ohio Lottery Commission office in Youngstown.

The thefts are alleged to have taken place between Sept. 13 and Sept. 25, according to the indictment.

Those indicted Thursday are expected to be arraigned before Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of common pleas court later this month.

Shawn Hamlett Jr., 18, East Avondale Avenue, attempted burglary.

Charles Winphrie III, 63, Kenmore Avenue, felon in illegal possession of a firearm and improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Dexter Grant, 29, Delaware Avenue, trafficking in marijuana.

Brian Grebenz, 40, Forest Garden Drive, Boardman, possession of heroin.

Edward Knox, 22, Erskine Avenue, trafficking in marijuana with a forfeiture specification.

Melissa Mills, 24, Prestwick Drive, trafficking in marijuana with a forfeiture specification.

Kenneth Perkins, 22, East Indianola Avenue, four counts of being a convicted felon in illegal possession of a firearm and possession of cocaine.
