Northern Iowa 41, McNeese State 6

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA

Sawyer Kollmorgen passed for 288 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed for 30 yards and another touchdown, to lead Northern Iowa. Northern Iowa (4-0) dominated from start to finish, limiting McNeese State (4-1) to just 280 total yards and recovered three fumbles. Kollmorgen opened the scoring with a 32-yard touchdown to David Johnson as the Panthers built a 17-0 halftime lead. Northern Iowa stretched the lead on the first series of the second half, as Kollmorgen hit Chad Owens for a 25-yard touchdown less than two minutes into the half. McNeese State finally scored later in the third quarter as Cody Stroud completed a six-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Wiltz, but a two-point conversion failed. Kollmorgen then converted a Cowboys fumble into a one-yard scoring run late in the third and Northern Iowa added two more TDs in the fourth quarter to complete the romp.

N Dakota St 20, S Dakota St 0

BROOKINGS, S.D.

North Dakota State, the nation’s top-ranked FCS team, shut out FCS No. 6 South Dakota State. The Bison (4-0) came off a 51-0 victory over Delaware State last week that included a visit from ESPN’s “College GameDay” show. The two-time defending FCS champions have now won 14 straight on the road. The Jackrabbits (3-2) lost 59-20 last week at Nebraska but were on a nine-game home winning streak, with the last loss coming to the Bison in 2011. The first score came early in the second quarter with a 1-yard run by Bison quarterback Brock Jensen. North Dakota State allowed South Dakota State to stay in the game well into the fourth quarter when NDSU running back John Crockett scored. On the next possession, Jensen ran it again for his second TD of the game. SDSU set an attendance record of 16,498.

Missouri State 37, Illinois State 10

SPRINGFIELD, MO.

Kierra Harris threw two touchdown passes and rushed for another to finalize Missouri State’s first victory. Harris rushed for a touchdown in the third quarter to stretch a four-point lead into a 21-10 game for the Bears in their MVFC opener (1-4, 1-0). He has scored six of the Bears 11 rushing touchdowns for the season. Dorian Buford exceeded the 1,000-yard mark for receptions with a 73-yard touchdown catch— he needed 62 yards at the start of the game— for the last score before the end of the half. Blake Winkler had a game-high 168 yards passing for the Redbirds (1-3, 0-1). He was 15 of 29 and one interception. Illinois State had a combined 46 yards rushing for one touchdown, compared to 272 yards and three touchdowns for the Bears.

Western Illinois 24, South Dakota 10

MACOMB, ILL.

Trenton Norvell led a balanced offensive attack as Western Illinois (3-2, 1-0 MVFC) finished with a 24-10 victory over South Dakota. Norvell was 11 of 23 for 102 yards and one touchdown. J.C. Baker rushed for 104 yards on 13 carries and Nikko Watson carried 22 times for 96 yards and one touchdown. Kevin Kintzel recovered a bad snap on a South Dakota punt in the second quarter and ran 11 yards for a touchdown, putting Western Illinois ahead 10-3 by halftime. The Coyotes (1-3, 0-1) compiled only 242 total yards and gave up two fumbles. QB Josh Vander Maten was replaced in the final quarter by Kevin Earl, who put together a successful eight-play drive for the lone Coyote touchdown.
