“Honk!,SDRq directed by Bernie Appugliese, Youngstown Playhouse, 600 Playhouse Lane, Youngstown, adult auditions (high school and older), 6 to 8:30 p.m., Oct. 7 and 8. The family musical retells Hans Christian Andersen’s tale of the ugly duckling. Actors auditioning should prepare a short song; an accompanist will be provided. All roles are open. The director invites individuals with physical challenges to audition for the production that champions the beauty of being different. “Race,” by David Mamet. Youngstown Playhouse will have auditions at 6 p.m. Friday. Be prepared to read from the script. Casting three men and one woman. Requires an African-American female and male. “Tuesdays With Morrie,SDRq The Youngstown Playhouse will have auditions at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the Playhouse. Brendan Byers directs this play, which goes up in June as part of the Griffith Adler Actors Series. Call 330-788-8739 for information.

“A Christmas Carol,” directed by Richard Fawcett, Salem Community Theatre, 490 E. State St., Salem, auditions for age 5 and older, 7 p.m. Oct. 7 and 8. Charles Dickens’ classic holiday tale provides a unique opportunity for those who are new to the stage with it’s variety of ages and size of roles. Those auditioning should be prepared to read from the script and interact with other actors. In addition to acting roles, the production includes some musical elements to accentuate certain scenes and provide time for scene changes, plus a closing song that all members of the cast join in. Anyone with a desire to be part of “the carolers” or to be involved in the musical portions of the production is invited to sing a song of their own choosing, with a supplied accompanist or a cappella if they choose. Rehearsals will begin the second week of October. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. Dec. 6-15. “Les Miserables,” directed by Don Struck and Jon Simsic, Area Community Theater of Sharpsville, Pierce Opera House, 100 N. Mercer Ave., Sharpsville, Pa., auditions 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 13 and 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 15 and 16. Actors are requested to sing a musical selection, and selections from the show are welcome, especially when auditioning for a particular role. An accompanist will be provided. There will be no reading or dance auditions. Possible callbacks are planned for Oct. 22. The first cast meeting will be Dec. 4, and rehearsals will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Performances will be March 14, 15, 16, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30.
