Canfield cross country team opens season

The Canfield High School Cross Country teams opened the 2013 season on Aug. 24 travelling to Canton to participate in the annual GlenOak invitational.

The varsity boy’s team placed sixth with 162 points in a 25 team field. The top five teams were Louisville (74), Boardman (74), GlenOak (117), Solon (142) and Hudson (158). The field included 2012 state placing teams from Medina, Brunswick and Akron St Vincent St Mary. Placing for Canfield were Chase Kern (26th), Tyler Kennedy (28th), Alec Kennedy (30th), Rollin Bresson (31st), Bryan Kristan (47th), Mack Mettille (98th), Stephen Gant (114th), Matt Coalmer (158th) and Kyle Anderson (173rd). A total of 193 runners finished the race.

The varsity girl’s team placed 16th with 337 points in a 28 team field. The top five teams were Akron St Vincent St Mary (30), Brunswick (40), GlenOak (84), Hudson (87) and Medina (131). The field included 2012 state champion Akron St V. St M., and state placing teams from Mentor and Hudson. Placing for Canfield were Devin Foley (40th), Anna Luongo (92nd), Jenny McClune (95th), Raquel Markulin (99th), Victoria Pacheco (101st), Isabelle Moyer (118th), Rachel Rostek (124th) and Victoria Bosze (138th). A total 219 runners finished the race.

The boy’s junior varsity team placed 13th in a 17 team field. Placing for the boys were Tyler Tareshawty (61st), Slava Lefoer (66th), Matt Lawson (84th), Richie Abel (86th), Victor Stefanides (87th), Ben Targove (92nd) and Tommy Donadee (93rd). A total of 317 runners finished the race.

The girl’s junior varsity team placed 10th in a 16 team field. Placing for the girls were Hannah Nischwitz (45th), Amy Goddard (56th), Natalie Schoenfeld (58th), Rosie Bresson (59th), Sarah Wyand (84th), Svetlana Lefoer (86th) and Angelina Sorice (93rd). A total of 258 runners finished the race.

On Aug. 24, the Cross Country teams travelled to West Branch to compete in the first league meet of 2013. The boy’s team placed third in a 12 team field. The top five teams were United (47), E Liverpool (71), Canfield (124), Struthers (134) and Lisbon (141). Placing for the boys were Tyler Tareshawty (18th), Matt Coalmer (21st), Slava Lefoer (27th), Richie Abel (31st), Kyle Anderson (38th), Tommy Donadee (39th) and Ben Targove (41st).

The girl’s team placed third in an eight team field. The top five teams were South Range (24), E Palestine (84), Canfield (87), United Local (112) and Poland (114). Placing for the girls were Anna Luongo (15th), Victoria Pacheco (17th), Rachel Rostek (20th), Hannah Nischwitz (24th), Jenny McClune (27th), Isabelle Moyer (29th) and Amy Goddard (32nd).

During the first weeks of action the following runners established personal best times for the 3.1 mile distance: Rosie Bresson, Devin Foley, Svetlana Lefoer, Raquel Markulin, Isabelle Moyer, Richie Abel, Matt Coalmer, Stephen Gant, Alec Kennedy, Dominic Haniford, Tyler Kennedy, Chase Kern, Bryan Kristan, Matt Lawson, Slava Lefoer, Tyler Napolitano, Victor Stefanides and Ben Targove.
