Corn hole tournament set
Legacy Dog Rescue will host a charity corn hole tournament on Sept. 28 at O’Donald’s, located at 6000 Mahoning Ave. in Austintown.
Registration begins at noon. The cost for early registration is $40 per team of two, or $50 the day of. The event will include a cash bar, cash prizes, 50/50 raffle and a Chinese auction.

Newcomer’s Club to host meeting
Newcomer’s Club welcomes women who are new or have had a change in their surroundings that live in the Mahoning Valley area.
The group will discuss opportunities to participate in various social activities such as once monthly birthday celebrations, needlework, book club, and a movie and lunch group. They also have monthly social groups where couples or singles meet for dinner or movies in the evening. MVHS Welcomes Cass Warner to Tyler History Center
Cass Warner, granddaughter of the founder of the Warner Bros. movie studio, will speak at the Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s Tyler History Center, located at 325 W. Federal St., in Youngstown at 7 p.m. on Sept. 26. After a brief talk, Warner will screen her award winning 2008 documentary “The Brothers Warner,” follow by a question and answer session. T

Saxon Club to host dinner
The Youngstown Saxon Club, located at 710 South Meridian Road, will host its next pork-kraut dinner Sept. 22 from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The price of $8.75 for adults and $5 for children includes dessert and coffee, tea or pop. The public is welcome and take-outs will be available.
Rocking for Epilepsy awareness
Hundreds of local people will rock today on the front porch of the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and Restaurant from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., raising Epilepsy awareness and support for service offered by Mahoning Valley Epilepsy. Community businesses, families, friends, clubs and organizations sponsor the event or get pledges to occupy the rocking chairs for an hour at a time during the day long event. There will be live entertainment, raffles and refreshments throughout the day. Participants are given information on first aid for seizures, signs and symptoms of epilepsy, and statistics on the prevalence and seriousness of the disorder. Those who are diagnosed with epilepsy are happy to chat about what life is like when you are living with Epilepsy.
Casino trip Oct. 26
The 2013 Pink Ribbon Golf Classic committee is sponsoring a bus trip to the Seneca Allegheny Casino on Oct. 26. All proceeds from this trip will be given to the American Cancer Society. The bus will leave from Fab Limo on Connecticut Ave. in Austintown at 8 a.m. and will depart from Seneca at 5 p.m. The cost is $35 per person and each player will be given $20 in play and a $5 food coupon.

White House Farm to host festival
White House Fruit Farm of Canfield will celebrate the fall season with its 31st Annual Harvest Festival and Craft Show this weekend. The annual event features a unique blend of fun and food for the entire family. A large craft show will be offered on the grounds of the farm and feature artisans from around the region. Additional outdoor events include horse-drawn wagon rides through the orchards, great food, fall candy and plenty of activities for the children. The weekend also marks the opening of the farm’s popular pumpkin pavilion with their very own pumpkin painter.
Ursuline Center to celebrate active aging
The Ursuline Center will celebrate active aging Sept. 23 from 11 a.m. until noon. Guest speaker Cara Carramusa, director of therapy services for Park Vista, Youngstown, will speak on Age Related Changes in the mature adult in the SilverSneakers exercise room, located at 4250 Shields Road. The public is invited to attend this free lecture. Active Aging Week promotes the benefits of a healthy lifestyle on a national scale by giving older adults the opportunity to experience activities and exercise in a safe, friendly and fun atmosphere. Autumn Flower Show
There will be an autumn flower show today from noon to 5 p.m. and Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. presented by the Garden Forum of Greater Youngstown at Fellows Riverside Gardens.
Digital scavenger hunt
Check in at Ford Nature Center to get a list of nature items to track down and document with a digital camera or phone. Everyone is welcome to the digital scavenger hunt, to be Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. This event is especially recommended for families with older children. Easy-moderate rating, miles are up to you.
Search for the pawpaw
The Metro Parks will host a search for the pawpaw Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. What is a pawpaw? Spend part of the first day of autumn with the Metro Parks and you will find out. Meet at Deerpath Trail off Hitchcock Road. The hike has a moderate rating of 1.5 miles.
Breakfast Botany set
Breakfast Botany: Maple will be Sept. 27 from 8:30-10 a.m. Start your morning with a brisk walk in the gardens.

Learn about tremendous trees
Tremendous Trees will be Sept. 28 from 1:30-3 p.m. at Fellows Riverside Gardens. In the class, children ages 6 and up will discuss the importance of trees and their uses, identify trees in the gardens and create their own tree field guide to take home. Bounding with butterflies
The Metro Parks will host Bounding with Butterflies Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. until noon at Fellows Riverside Garden. Autumn plant sale to be Sept. 28, 29
Fellows Riverside Gardens will host an autumn plant sale Sept. 28 and 29 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Ornamental cabbage, gourds, pumpkins, chrysanthemums, plus a large variety of spring blooming bulbs will be for sale. Call Fellows Riverside Garden for more information.
Farmers and chefs create tastings
Top local chefs will be paired with local farmers or producers, and together they will create delicious tastings from fresh, locally grown produce, meat and other products on Sept. 21 from 6:30-11 p.m. Craft beer pairings, luscious desserts and the music of Gail George and Donkey Engine complete the evening. Farmers National Bank funds scholarship
Farmers National Bank reaffirmed its simultaneous commitment to community and education with a $3,000 gift to the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC).
OFIC applied these funds to a scholarship for Ryan Pollifrone of Boardman. Pollifrone is a finance and political science major at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus.
Farmers has provided annual donations to the OFIC over the last 8 years. The OFIC, which is headquartered in Columbus, works with corporations, foundations and individuals to provide scholarship assistance to 100,000 students.
Volleyball boosters to host wine taste
The Canfield Volleyball Booster Club will host a wine taste and Chinese auction Sept. 21 at St. Michael’s Family Life Center from 7-10 p.m.

Fall festival set
Poland-Boardman Child Care Center, located at 1940 Boardman Poland Road, is hosting the second annual fall festival Sept. 21 from 1-5 p.m.
The festival will include food, games, a bounce-around, crafts, fire trucks and the MedEvac helicopter.
Donate food items
Canfield Operation Blessing distributes food at the Canfield Presbyterian Church, 140 W. Main St., from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. every third Thursday of the month. In order to continue to help local families in need, the church is asking for donations of non-perishable goods at the following locations during the month of August: Canfield Police Department, Canfield Fire Department, St. Michael’s Catholic Church, The Broad Street Diner, Bob and Chuck Eddy Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Fiat and Firm Fitness and Spray Tan (Hilltop Plaza). Arms Museum plans Christmas program
Plans for this year’s Memories of Christmas Past are underway at the Arms Family Museum. The Mahoning Valley Historical Society is looking to the Valley community for some help with this year’s display.
Highlights this year will be on local Valley traditions and will include family heirlooms, nativity collections, handmade cigar box doll houses and a large collection from John Garver, inventor of the locally produced Plakie twirler ornaments.
The society is looking for Christmas items related to downtown department stores. McKelveys, McCrorys, Higbees, Strouss-Hirshberg or any other downtown establishment are desirable. Items will be displayed on a short-term loan basis and will be returned to the owner after the exhibit closes in January.
