Have you ever watched a watermelon explode from the pressure of rubber bands? OH WOW! would like to show you how it’s done!

OH WOW! Children’s Center for Science & Technology will host its third annual Silly Science Sunday fundraising event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday in downtown Youngstown.

Watermelon explosions will be just one of many demonstrations happening outside the center’s doors Sunday. OH WOW! will take over a portion of West Federal Street, between Phelps Street and Central Square, to provide a variety of hands-on activities, exhibitors and stage shows all related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

“Silly Science Sunday is a day meant for all ages to visit OH WOW! and get excited about STEM education in the Mahoning Valley,” said Suzanne Barbati president and executive director. “We encourage exploration and experimentation at the museum every day, and Silly Science is an expansion of our mission.”

In addition to exhibitors such as Youngstown State University College of STEM, Home Depot of Boardman, Mill Creek MetroParks and area robotics teams, OH WOW! will open a new visiting exhibition called “The Bone Zone Carnival of Healthy Choices.”

The Bone Zone features nine informative, interactive displays that engage children and adults to help them develop healthy habits. Hands-on activities, games, entertaining videos and a fun-filled narrative provide information about bone health, diet and exercise. Organized by the Purdue Agriculture Exhibit Design Center, The Bone Zone is sponsored by The Dairy & Nutrition Council of Indiana.

Tickets for the event are $10 ($8 for members of the museum). All proceeds benefit OH WOW! For information, contact 330-744-5914.
