Thieves cause natural gas leak at vacant home

Firefighters had to ventilate a vacant 345 W. Judson Ave. home on the South Side about 4:40 p.m. Tuesday because someone stole the hot water tank causing a natural gas leak.

Reports said neighbors told firefighters the owner of the home died about a month ago. Inside, reports said, the home was ransacked and all the copper and appliances were taken.

Gas service was cut off at the curb but reports noted there was still electricity in the home.
