Man films cops before they find gun

A man who police said had a loaded .40-caliber handgun in his vehicle Friday evening was filming officers on his cellphone before he was arrested, reports said.

Police working a special detail on the North Side about 9:05 p.m. noticed a car that had its front plate improperly displayed pulling out of a Logan Avenue gas station.

When officers ran a check on the plate, they found that the driver, Lester Scott II, 20, of Youngstown had a warrant, and they tried to pull his car over, according to police reports.

Reports said the car continued for a short time before it stopped. When officers asked the driver to get out, Scott said he did not have to, reports said.

At one point, he was filming officers with an iPhone 5, and police said they had to approach the car as they would for an armed suspect before ordering Scott to get out, reports said.

When the car was searched, the gun was found underneath the driver’s-side seat. Also found were two bags of suspected crack cocaine and a digital scale.

Officers arrested Scott and took him to Mahoning County jail. He is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing official business and the warrant for failure to appear.
