Facing drug charges

Police arrested Thomas W. Huff, 32, of Youngstown, on charges of drug paraphernalia, possession of drugs-cocaine and operating a vehicle without a valid license after an incident about 11:09 p.m. Saturday.
Police said they saw Huff’s vehicle leave a known drug house in the 400 block of Pasadena and head east on the street. At the stop sign at Pasadena and South Avenue, Huff turned north but did not signal. Police made a traffic stop and saw him trying to hide drugs, according to reports. He was taken to the Mahoning County jail.

Deshannon Love, 35, of Youngstown was issued a citation for possession of marijuana after police were called to Overland Street near Willis about a “man down” about 12:48 a.m. Sunday. Police found an unconscious man on the ground with a wound to his head; he was on the ground behind a van. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Police found Love in the van asleep. She said she did not know who the man was. A plastic bag of marijuana was in plain sight, police said.
Rabies vaccinations

The Mahoning County District Board of Health is offering a rabies-vaccination clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Struthers Police Department garage, 6 Elm St.
Rabies vaccination for all dogs, cats and ferrets more than 3 months old is required in Mahoning County. The cost is $6 per shot. Pet owners must have their pets on a leash, in a cage, or inside a pillowcase.
No appointment is necessary.
Rabies is a preventable, potentially deadly, viral disease most often transmitted through bites and scratches from unvaccinated pets, strays and wildlife.
The clinic, sponsored by the county health department in partnership with veterinarian Dr. John Daugherty and the Poland Veterinary Centre, Poland, is part of a coordinated effort to prevent rabies through education, awareness and pet vaccination, said Patricia Sweeney, county health commissioner.
Farm Bureau plans annual meeting

Mahoning County Farm Bureau will have its annual meeting Oct. 3 at A La Cart Catering, 429 Lisbon St.
The event will begin with a social reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner at 7.
The annual meeting highlights the activities of the past year and lays the groundwork for programs for the upcoming year. Active farmer members will have the responsibility of voting on proposed policies, as well as electing board members and delegates to the 2014 Ohio Farm Bureau annual meeting.
Guest speaker will be Dan Toland, director of digital strategy with the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation.
The public is invited. Tickets are $16 each. Reservations are due by Sept. 26.
