Pa. woman charged with leaving baby in hot car

LEBANON, Pa. (AP) — An eastern Pennsylvania woman is charged with leaving a baby in a car for nearly three hours on a warm July afternoon, causing severe injuries to the 8-month-old boy.

Lebanon County police said today that 37-year-old Damaris Manrique of Johnstown faces charges of aggravated assault, child endangerment and related counts stemming from the July 24 incident.

Authorities said the child was suffering from seizures and had a body temperature of 107 degrees when he was rushed to the hospital. Doctors said he suffered from brain damage, blindness, deafness and more than likely would never walk on his own.

Manrique is identified in court documents as the baby’s guardian. She told police she only left him inside the car for 15 minutes. A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 8.
