Campbell's new police chief sworn in Friday

CAMPBELL — Sgt. Drew Rauzan will be sworn in as the city's new police chief at 3 p.m. Friday at the police memorial outside of the Campbell Municipal Building, 351 Tenney Ave.

Joining Rauzan in taking the police oath of office will be members of the police department, who will use the swearing-in ceremony as an opportunity to rededicate themselves to city residents.

Rauzan, a 15-year department veteran, has been interim chief since June, when he replaced Sgt. David Taybus, the former interim chief who served from December until Rauzan's temporary appointment.

Rauzan received the highest score on the civil-service exam, which was intended to determine the permanent replacement for former Chief Gus Sarigianopoulos.

Three department sergeants — Rauzan, Taybus, and Sgt. John Rusnak — vied for the position.
