Zanni named dean of Trumbull County

YOUNGSTOWN

The Rev. Frank Zanni, pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Vienna, has been appointed dean of Trumbull County by Bishop George V. Murry.

The appointment is a three-year term, renewable.

Father Zanni was ordained June 9, 1990, after seminary studies at Mount St. Mary Seminary in Cincinnati. He has served as associate pastor at St. Patrick Parish in Hubbard, St. Luke Parish in Boardman and St. Rose Parish in Girard. His current assignment as pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish includes the churches of St. Vincent DePaul in Vienna and St. Bernadette in Masury.

Father Zanni also served as a member of the diocesan Priests’ Personnel Board and Priests’ Council.

The Diocese of Youngs-town is comprised of seven deaneries. Priests representing the other deaneries in the Diocese of Youngstown as deans are: Rev. Raymond Thomas, Ashtabula County; Rev. Robert Edwards, Columbiana County (reappointed to second term); Rev. Gregory Fedor, Mahoning County-North (reappointed to second term); Rev. Terrence Hazel, Mahoning County-South (reappointed to second term); Rev. Richard Pentello, Portage County; and Rev. Msgr. James Clarke, Stark County.

New pastor

NORTH JACKSON

Phillip McClelland was installed as the new pastor of Gethsemane Lutheran Church (Lutheran Church Missouri Synod) this summer.

Pastor McClelland studied at Concordia St. Louis Seminary, where he received a master of divinity degree, and at Concordia, St. Paul, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Christian outreach.

He previously served at Peace Lutheran Church in Galloway, N.J.

He and his wife, Shiloh, have been married 11 years and have two children.

Worship service is at 9 a.m. and Sunday school at 10.

Weekend retreat

Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will host a weekend retreat, “Holiness is Wholeness,” from Nov. 1-3 with presenter Melannie Svoboda, a member of the Sisters of Notre Dame of Chardon.

Sister Melannie, the author of 11 books, will explore five signs of everyday holiness — a sense of wonder, peace, hospitality, playfulness and the ability to live graciously with adversity and ambiguity.

The cost is $175 and includes the program, overnight accommodations, all meals and refreshments. A commuter rate is $125.

Bishop to be feted

Congregants of Cristianos Unidos Church The Place Where the Lord Provides in Campbell and The Place Where the Lord Provides, 104 W. Evergreen Ave., will honor Bishop Sarah Covington at 3 p.m. Sunday.

She presides over both churches. She has pioneered such projects as housing for the elderly, substance-abuse intervention, school for children, food and clothing assistance, prison ministry and a turkey giveaway.

First sermon

Artis M. Henderson will preach his first sermon at 3 p.m. Sunday at Greater Friendship Baptist Church, 646 Lakewood Ave.

Henderson has played piano and organ and acted as music director for 40 years at various churches in the Mahoning Valley and Pennsylvania. He is a former member of the gospel group Jesus Celebration Choir. Henderson attends Greater Friendship Baptist Church, where he has been on the music staff since 2009 and in ministerial training since March 2012.
