NEW SPRINGFIELD

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Canfield Post is investigating a motorcycle-SUV traffic crash resulting in serious injuries.

The crash occurred at 3:42 p.m. Monday on state Route 165 north of state Route 617 in Springfield Township.

Leo J. Flauto, 61, of Boardman, was operating a 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. His passenger was Deborah L. Taylor, 62, of Cortland. Flauto was traveling northwest on Route 165.

Betty L. Welker, 71, of Columbiana, was operating a 2010 Dodge Journey. She was traveling southeast and attempted to turn left into a private business.

The patrol said Flauto’s motorcycle struck the SUV and he and his passenger were ejected. Taylor was wearing a helmet, but Flauto did not have one.

Welker was taken to St. Elizabeth Boardman campus, while Flauto and Taylor were transported to St. Elizabeth health Center in Youngstown.

Flauto and Taylor are in serious condition and Welker was released, the patrol said.
