CROP Walk results

YOUNGSTOWN

The CROP Walk for Hunger on Oct. 13 raised more than $13,000, and donations still are coming in.

Poland Presbyterian Church came in first with donations of $2,565; Girard First United Methodist Church, second with $2,500; and Disciples Christian Church in Boardman, third with $2,165. There were 179 walkers from 23 churches and organizations.

The “smelly shoe” award for the church with the most walkers went to Girard United Methodist with 43 walkers. Second place went to Poland Presbyterian with 39 walkers and third to Zion Lutheran Church with 13. The event, sponsored by Mahoning Valley Association of Churches, was coordinated by the Rev. Nora Smith.

New service

NORTH LIMA

Calvary United Methodist Church, 12062 South Ave., will start a new service, S.P.I.C.E. (Spirit & Power In Christ Eternal), at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 26.

Buddhist monks

NEW CASTLE, PA.

The Spiritual Path Church, 2041 Moravia St. Ext., will host the Gaden Shartse Buddhist monks next week.

“World Peace and Unity of All Religions” will be the lecture topic at 7 p.m. Friday. “Four Noble Truths” will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 26 with meditations on patience and compassion. Donations of $10 are requested.

“Vajraviharan Healing Ritual” will be at 4 p.m. Oct. 27. Donation of $20.

‘Pentecost Tonight!’

“Pentecost Tonight!” is the theme of a study, learn and grow session planned at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 at Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road.

Fall Rally planned

Butler Memorial Presbyterian Church, 126 E. Rayen Ave., will celebrate Fall Rally Day at 11 a.m. Sunday.

The Rev. Sydney Byrd will be guest speaker. Music will be presented by the Noble family.

Dinner will follow the service.

Recognition event

The Monument of Faith Church of God in Christ, 2165 Highland Ave., will honor the 24th pastoral celebration for Bishop David L. Herron Sr., prelate of Ohio Central East, and his wife, Brenda, next week.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and at 4 p.m. Sunday with special guests.

Family, friends

Phillips Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, 718 Albert St., will celebrate the annual Family and Friends Day at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Bishop Sylvester Williams Sr., presiding prelate of the Second Episcopal District of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, will be guest speaker.

The Rev. Bruce B.Gibson is host pastor.

The male chorus will sing.

Drama presentation

“Heaven’s Gates and Hell’s Flames,” a dramatic presentation, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday at Emmanuel Community Church, 6512 Kird Road.
