Man who fled cops faces drug charges

CAMPBELL

A 39-year-old Jackson Street man faces drug charges, as well as an obstructing official business charge, for fleeing from police and then being caught with 1.9 grams of suspected crack cocaine.

At about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, police noticed an unfamiliar man — later identified as Dexter Buxton — walking through the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority complex, which is private property.

Officers then attempted to approach Buxton on Jackson Street, but he began to run — even disregarding an officer’s warning that the police dog would be released to apprehend him.

The dog then bit Buxton’s right calf shortly after he dropped a plastic baggie containing the crack cocaine.

Police arrested Buxton and charged him with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, as well as obstructing official business.
