1988: Atty. Don L. Hanni Jr., chairman of the Mahoning County Democratic Party, says that rumors of President John F. Kennedy’s extramarital affairs may “serve to humanize a guy who almost became a deity” after his assassination 25 years ago.

Warren Consolidated Industries Inc. would emerge a winner should Trumbull County and a host of local governments create a “Super Urban Enterprise Zone.”

1973: U.S. Steel Corp. says it will not install more pollution controls on its two Youngstown district plants and could be forced to close them by mid-1977 under present federal pollution crackdown plans.

1963: Two feuding steelworkers stage a “shoot-out” on Ninth Street in Campbell with one wild shot crashing through the window of a home and lodging in the living room wall. Campbell police arrest both men.

A gunman pretending to have a nosebleed hires Uptown Cab driver Albert Patrick to take him to the West Side, then robs the driver of $10 and drives off in his cab.

1938: Youngstown Mayor Lionel Evans’ suggestion that Youngstown have sole ownership and control of the Vienna airport has the support of five of seven councilmen.

Plans for the $500,000 Lockwood Blvd. bridge proposed to span Lake Newport in Mill Creek Park at Midlothian Blvd, are dropped by county Engineer Robert J. Schomer because PWA officials in Washington refused to approve a $110,000 request made by the county.
