NE Ohio racino on track for mid-December opening

Wednesday, November 20, 2013

NORTHFIELD, Ohio (AP) — Officials say a northeast Ohio facility featuring horse racing and slots-like video terminals will open Dec. 18, making it the fourth of seven racinos expected to open around the state.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports the facility in Northfield is scheduled to open less than a week after the racino in Lebanon in southwest Ohio.

The Lebanon facility moved up its opening to Dec. 12 in hopes of drawing more attention before a second racino opens in that region, in the Dayton area.

The Ohio Lottery Commission oversees the video lottery terminals at the tracks. A spokeswoman for the commission says it doesn’t anticipate any problems delaying the Northfield opening.

Two racinos, Scioto Downs near Columbus and Thistledown near Cleveland, already opened. Another is under construction in Austintown.
