A Lakeview Avenue man was arraigned in Youngstown Municipal Court Friday after police reports say he eluded a sheriff’s deputy during a chase Tuesday afternoon on the South Side.

Carey McQueen, 36, was arraigned on charges of fleeing and eluding, failure to stop after an accident and a warrant for not appearing at his sentencing hearing for a 2011 assault case.

Reports said a Mahoning County Sheriff’s deputy working a speed detail on Glenwood Avenue just before 5 p.m. Tuesday clocked a car McQueen was driving as going over the speed limit and tried to pull him over near Dewey Avenue.

Instead, the car sped up and went toward Oak Hill Avenue, where the deputy lost sight of it for a time and turned off his siren, only to see it again, this time driving backward on Dewey Avenue, reports said.

The car then stopped and the driver ran off through several yards, reports said. The deputy then spoke to a female in the car who identified McQueen and said she was his daughter. She then became uncooperative, reports said.

Police could not find McQueen but a Youngstown officer told the deputy that McQueen was involved in an accident nearby and had driven away. It is unclear if the accident was before the deputy tried to pull him over.

Police arrested McQueen about 9:55 a.m. Thursday at an apartment on Applecrest Drive.

His bond was set at $5,000. He has a Nov. 22 preliminary hearing set.
