3-D printing event

JOHNSTOWN, pa.

The National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining, along with the Youngstown-based National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, will provide an update on the projects and initiatives that NAMII is undertaking at the 23rd annual Showcase for Commerce event in Johnstown, Pa., today.

Shortly after NAMII awarded its first projects in March, aimed at improving 3-D printing or additive manufacturing, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers announced it would have its 2013 RAPID Additive Manufacturing Solutions Event, North America’s definitive conference and exposition featuring 3-D printing, in Pittsburgh to build on the momentum of NAMII’s founding in the TechBelt region of Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania last August.

Today’s review is in the Frank J. Pasquerilla Conference Center at 301 Napoleon St. in Johnstown. The review primarily will cover projects that will have an impact in Pennsylvania.

Pipeline project

houston

Williams and Boardwalk Pipeline Partners announced this week that they have executed a joint-venture agreement to continue the development process for Bluegrass Pipeline, a project that would transport natural- gas liquids from the Marcellus and Utica shale plays to the rapidly expanding petrochemical and export complex on the U.S. Gulf Coast.

The proposed Bluegrass Pipeline, first announced in March, would provide producers with 200,000 barrels per day of mixed natural-gas liquids transportation capacity in Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. The pipeline will originate at multiple points in Ohio and West Virginia. The deal still is subject to the execution of customer contracts and regulatory approval.

Bike path unveiled

LISBON

Columbiana County Park District unveiled its newly extended path for the Greenway Bike Trail this week — a goal the organization was able to achieve through a $50,000 donation from NiSource Midstream Services, a Columbia Pipeline Group company.

The donation from NiSource Midstream Services, through the NiSource Charitable Foundation, enabled the park district to construct about two miles of bike trail from High Street in Leetonia to Union Street in Washingtonville, which is one block from state Route 14. The Greenway Trail is extended as far north as it can go where it now meets with Mahoning County and the Great Ohio Lake to River Greenway Trail.

NiSource is constructing a natural-gas processing facility in New Springfield.

Pending sales up

WASHINGTON

The number of Americans who signed contracts to buy homes ticked up in April to the highest level in three years. The increase points to growth in home sales in the coming months.

The National Association of Realtors said Thursday that its seasonally adjusted index for pending home sales rose 0.3 percent to 106. That’s the highest since April 2010, when a homebuyer tax credit inflated sales.
