The Rev. Michael Woost will be the featured speaker when the First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown meets June 6 at Antone’s Banquet Centre, 8578 Market St.

He is an assistant professor of liturgical theology at St. Mary Seminary and Graduate School of Theology in the Diocese of Cleveland.

His topic will be “Living the Sacramental Life.”

The luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The cost is $15.

Pastor appointment

Bishop George V. Murry has appointed the Rev. John-Michael Lavelle as pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in McDonald, effective July 1.

He is currently pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, a position he will keep in addition to his new assignment.

Father Lavelle was ordained May 27, 2000, after completing seminary studies at St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, Pa. He served as associate pastor at St. Mary Parish in Massillon and St. Christine Parish in Youngstown; and was pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Ravenna.

Father Lavelle is director of Advancement for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Youngstown, chairperson of the Diocesan Council for Catechesis, secretary of the Diocese of Youngstown Foundation and a member of the Diocesan Stewardship Commission.

He served as pastoral director of Catholic Television Network of Youngstown, instructor in the Theology Department at Walsh University and in the Deacon Formation program for the diocese.

He also served as chaplain of the Serra Club of Youngstown, which promoted vocations to the priesthood.

Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church, 2045 Jacobs Road, will present “The Past, Present and the Future” at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Pastor Kevin Crum of New Hope Baptist Church will speak on “The Past;” the Rev. James Bowie of Greater Friendship Baptist Church on “The Present,” and other speakers on the “The Future.”

Women’s Day

Tabernacle Baptist Church, 707 Arlington St., will observe the annual Women’s Day at 10:45 a.m. Sunday with speaker the Rev. Sylvia Jennings, pastor of Oak Missionary Baptist Church.

At 4:30 p.m., women will present the musical “Travel the Gospel,” featuring Wilbert Ervin and soloists.
