Doug Dunn, general manager of Republic Services/Allied Waste, said Saturday his company will work through the day Sunday to get caught up on trash collections delayed by a strike by workers.
The strike, which involves 103 Youngstown workers, began Thursday. The company brought in nonunion employees and supervisors from other regional divisions to collect trash. The trash for some Republic Services/Allied Waste customers has remained at the curb for several days.
The company has more than 100,000 customers in the Mahoning Valley and in Pennsylvania.
In a press release, Dunn said the average Republic Services/Allied Waste landfill worker on strike makes $43,000.
Drivers who walked out in support of the landfill workers earn an average of $53,000, Dunn said, adding that some earn more than $85,000.
