Benefit golf outing to be July 20

The eighth annual sunshine benefit golf outing will be held on July 20 at Lakeside Golf Course. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and shotgun start at 9 a.m. The event will be a three-person scramble. The cost is $225 per team and includes a T-shirt, continental breakfast, lunch, drinks and a steak dinner to follow at Ball Busters Sports Bar.

Hole sponsorships are available for $100 and program ads for $50. Cost for just the steak dinner is $30 per person or two for $50.

Benefit cornhole tournament set

Ball Busters Sports Bar and Grill, 3661 Mahoning Ave., will host a cornhole tournament on July 21. Registration begins at 2 p.m. and first bag toss is at 3 p.m. The cost is $40 per team and includes a hot dog lunch. The tournament will include double elimination, 50/50 and a raffle. Friends meeting and program set

The Friends of the Austintown Library will host its meeting and program on April 15 at 10 a.m. Theresa Lyden from the Holborn Herb Growers Guild will teach about herbs. The guild, which just celebrated its 30th anniversary, maintains the gardens at the Western Reserve Historical Village in Canfield Fair grounds and Boardman Park gardens.

Get ready for your baby

The Austintown library will host a library baby shower on April 13 at 11 a.m. Gia Ramsey from Safe Kids Mahoning Valley Coalition will be there to talk about car seat safety and infant safe sleep. The library’s assistant children’s services specialist, Starr Jones, will speak about baby brain development and pre-literacy. There will be light refreshments and each family will leave with baby’s first book. One family will also win a prize. For adults only. Registration is required. Call 330-744-8636 to register.

The Austintown library will host Smart Money: Fun Times for 4s and 5s on April 24 at 11:30 a.m. The program will include developmentally-appropriate stories and activities that will help your child (ages 4-5) learn about money. Each child will receive a piggy bank. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Give blood at the library

The Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross will sponsor a blood drive at the Austintown library on April 23 from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Class features Nook for newbies

Adults can bring your Nook to the Austintown library and the librarians will show you how to download eBooks from the Library’s Digital Catalog on their website on April 8 and 29 at 6 p.m.

Kindle class set in April

Buzz about books at library

The Austintown library will host Page turners: Book Buzz on April 11 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Hear what others are reading and share your favorite read, or just come in and join the fun.

Children of all ages are invited to try their hand at paper mazes and or matching games at the Austintown library during the month of April. Show the librarian your finished project and receive a surprise.

Annual art show set

Enjoy art work by Fitch High School students at this very special art show. A reception, open to the public, will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Austintown library on April 18. Light refreshments will be served. Artwork will be on display April 16–21.

Play video games in the meeting room of the Austintown library after school on April 9 at 2:30 p.m. This event is for teens in grades 7-12.

Spaghetti dinner set April 7

The Youngstown Shrine Club will host a spaghetti dinner on April 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the club’s main hall, 1735 South Range Road (Route 165) in North Lima. The cost is $7 for adults, $3.50 for children ages 6-12 and children under 6 eat free. Dinner includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, rolls, dessert and beverages.

ABWA to host Chinese auction

The Mill Creek Chapter of American Business Women’s Association will host its annual Chinese auction on April 28 at the Ursuline Center, 4300 Shields Road, from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Profits from this event go into the scholarship/education fund for the four students the chapter is supporting this year in college.

ABWA meeting set in Canfield

The Mill Creek Chapter of American Business Women’s Association will hold its spring enrollment event at A La Cart in Canfield on April 9 beginning with a networking session at 6 p.m. The speaker for the evening will be attorney William Kalasky, speaking on estate planning. The menu will be roast pork, southern-baked chicken, eggplant parmesan, redskin mashed potatoes with garlic, chives and sour cream, buttered cord, cole slaw, tomato, pepper and onion salad, relish trays, rolls and butter, coffee and tea and pretzel dessert. The cost is $18.50.

Benefit wine tasting April 20

The Youngstown Country Club will host a wine tasting on April 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. The gala event will pair complimentary hors d’oeuvres with the exquisite wines that have been selected for tasting, including some premier local winemakers. The event will benefit the Mahoning County DD Special Olympics Program.

Boardman-based travel agency VTI American Express Travel has launched its new website, allowing leisure and business customers a less stressful means of making travel arrangements.

Registration open for Women’s Heart Day

Registration for the 10th annual Woman’s Heart Day, a free health and wellness extravaganza provided by Humility of Mary Health Partners, opens Monday.

Provided as a service to the community, Woman’s Heart Day will take place on May 9 from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Covelli Centre. This annual event features free health screenings, fitness demonstrations, educational presentations on a variety of women’s health issues, cooking demonstrations, spa services, refreshments and giveaways.

Among the health screenings offered this year are bone density, lipid panel (cholesterol) and A1c testing, blood pressure readings, vision screenings, stroke risk and skin cancer risk assessments.

Registration is required and appointments for bone density, lipid panel and A1c testing are limited.

Camera Club hosts meetings

Pink Ribbon Golf Classic set

The annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic will be at Squaw Creek at Avalon Golf and Country Club on July 15. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society. Special Olympics fundraiser set

A Special Olympics fundraiser will be on April 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bev Road MASCO Workshop, 825 Bev Road, Boardman. More than 800 items will be available for purchase at the Shop-Till-You-Drop sale benefitting the Mahoning County DD Special Olympics. The sale will feature YSU, Steelers, Browns and Cleveland Indians sports items along with jewelry, purses, toys, books and home d cor.

The event will also include 100 gift baskets with items such as a Colt McCoy autographed football, overnight stay at Mountaineer Resort and Casino, Kindle, cameras, and a year of skating at the Skate Zone. There will also be a gift card raffle valued at $500. One person will win gift cards to local restaurants, bakeries, retail stores, golf items, salons and more.

Library closed for Easter

All branches of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will be closed on today and tomorrow for Easter.

Gift card program in effect

Smith Corners United Methodist Church is also offering gift cards that you can order for Walmart, Giant Eagle, Sam’s Club, Speedway, AutoZone, iTunes, Amazon, sit-down restaurants, fast-food restaurants, online sites, etc., almost 1,000 cards to pick from. Pick up an order form or call the church at 330-799-9390 for more details. Orders will be placed on the fifth and 20th of each month.
