Enterprise Rent-A-Car plans to open an office at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport on Monday.

The airport already is home to Budget, Avis and Hertz offices. Enterprise is the largest car-rental agency in North America, with 5,400 offices. It currently operates eight locations in the Mahoning Valley.

Chamber to host mayoral candidates

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber will host a forum-style event for the city’s mayoral candidates April 5 at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Banquet Hall, 343 Via Mount Carmel Ave.

The event is open to the public. The cost is $20 for chamber members and $30 for nonmembers. Candidates Matthew Smith, Jamael Tito Brown and John McNally IV will give brief remarks, answer questions posed by a moderator and, time permitting, answer questions from the audience.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Good Morning Youngstown Breakfast, starting at 7:30 a.m. The advanced-registration deadline is Friday.

J&J recalls blood glucose meters

Health-products giant Johnson & Johnson on Monday issued yet another product recall, this one for OneTouch VerioIQ blood glucose meters sold in the U.S. and other countries.

They’re being recalled because when a diabetic’s blood sugar level is dangerously high, they do not provide a warning and instead turn off, or they display an inaccurate reading.

The meters are made by J&J’s LifeScan unit, which will issue a free replacement meter to all patients.

The company said Monday that the meters being recalled in the U.S. shut down when a patient’s blood sugar hits 1,024 milligrams per deciliter. That’s an extremely high level requiring immediate medical attention.

It’s extremely unlikely that a diabetic’s blood sugar level would get that high. However, if a patient experienced such extreme high blood sugar and did not get prompt treatment or got an incorrect treatment, that could result in serious health risk or death, according to J&J.

Oil prices rise to five-week high

NEW YORK

The price of oil rose to a five-week high after Europe patched up the latest problem in its years-long financial crisis.

Benchmark crude for May delivery rose $1.10 to finish at $94.81 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. That’s the highest New York closing since Feb. 20.

In the U.S., gasoline prices are now at the lowest level since the middle of February. The average price for a gallon of gas is $3.67, down 22 cents from this time last year.
