The State Highway Patrol says a teen died after his vehicle ran off the road into a pond in northeast Ohio.

The patrol’s Elyria post says a caller reported a submerged car in a pond near Ohio 57 just south of Grafton around 7:30 a.m. Saturday. The patrol says the car wasn’t visible, but evidence and witnesses’ statements indicated a car ran a stop sign and drove off the road into a partially frozen pond. The car, submerged in about 10 feet of water, was recovered around 9 a.m.

Troopers say 18-year-old Dominic Zunis, of Elyria, was inside. He was flown to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say no other victims were found. They say alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash.

Two weeks ago today, six teenagers died when their vehicle swerved off the road and into a pond in Warren.
