Canfield soccer club begins registration

Registration for the 2013 summer recreational soccer league will run through April 15 for only $90 and must be done online. The summer league runs June 24 to Aug. 2 and is open to all players ages 4-13 in Canfield and the surrounding communities.

The club runs safe, relaxed coed games with sanctioned referees at their home fields at Township Park on Herbert Road. Team and community sign sponsorships are available plus new and improved coaching clinics and training. Visit www.canfieldsoccerclub.org for complete details.

Parent-Child scramble schedule set

The schedule for the Diamondback parent-child scrambles has been set. The schedule is as follows:

• April 21, tee times start at 3, 3:08, 3:16, 3:24, 3:32 and 3:40 p.m.

• May 19, tee times start at 3 p.m.

• June 15, tee times start at 3 p.m.

• July 14, tee times start at 3 p.m.

• Aug. 11, tee times start at 3 p.m.

• Sept. 7 is the championship/field day. Will include hamburgers, hot dogs and awards.

Cost is $25 per team and includes a cart.

Tressel to speak at HOF banquet

Jim Tressel, former YSU and Ohio State University football coach, will serve as guest speaker at the Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame Banquet on May 5.

There will be 13 inductees at the event held at Mr. Anthony’s Banquet Center.

The class includes: Adam Barta (bowling); Richard Canacci (football); Marla Chicase (bowling); Melanie Congemi-Stitt (track & field); Robert Eckenrode (bowling); John “J.C.” Elliott (softball); Jim Ferraro (baseball); Seth Jaffee (basketball); Mike Koranicki (boxing/posthumous); Steve Krivonak (contribution to sports); Jim Leone (racquetball); Dick Marlowe (all-sports award) and Bill Sferra (special award). High school searches for soccer coach

Canfield High School is searching for a varsity head soccer coach. Previous head coaching experience is strongly preferred. For information, contact the athletic office at 330-533-5341.

Women’s senior event at Amron, April 6-7

The 21st Ladies Senior Singles tournament of the Youngstown-Salem Women’s Bowling Association will be at Amron Lanes, April 6-7.

Sessions are scheduled both days at 2 p.m. and also at 11 a.m. on April 7. Cost is $17 per person for the five-division event for those 55 and over.

Jon Bullock main event winner on boxing card

Jon Bullock of the Downtown Boxing Club registered a decision over Daywaun Roseberry of Cleveland in the main event of Saturday’s amateur boxing card to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The Bullock-Roseberry bout culminated the Lights Out Productions show at St. Mary’s Assumption Social Center that raised more than $4,000 for the foundation.
